Approach Angle Adjustment at the Walk

Equipment: 1 barrel, 6 cones or markers

Set up a barrel with cones marking three different approach lines: straight, slight angle, and wide angle.
Walk the approach on the straight line. Note where you enter the turn and how the turn feels.
Walk the slight angle approach. Note the difference in pocket distance and turn shape.
Walk the wide angle approach. This creates the most room for the pocket but covers more ground.
Compare which approach angle gives you the best combination of speed and turn quality.
The optimal approach angle depends on your horse's size, speed, and turning ability.
